Our History
Housing Channel was founded in 1991 by a housing task force formed by then-Fort Worth Mayor Bob Bolen and community leaders. Since that time, working in close collaboration with Tarrant County, the City of Arlington, the City of Fort Worth and other partners, Housing Channel has become the area’s leading nonprofit organization charged with fulfilling an array of housing development activities:
Administering down payment and closing cost assistance programs
New construction of single-family residences
Homeowner counseling
Acquisition, rehabilitation, and resale programs
HC employs an integrated, holistic strategy that provides critical assistance to current and potential homeowners in all stages of ownership. If a homeowner has fallen behind on house payments, we help them develop a long-term strategy for stability and sustainability. Our acquisition and rehabilitation programs help entire neighborhoods emerge from distress. We help potential homeowners locate viable properties and provide down payment assistance and access to other financial resources.
Our Mission
Housing Channel (HC) is a certified 501(c)(3) housing nonprofit organization with Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO) status to address critical revitalization needs in targeted areas of the city and county. The mission of Housing Channel is to revitalize distressed neighborhoods and to increase the amount of quality, affordable housing available to low- and moderate-income families and individuals with special housing needs.
Fair Housing Act
Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968 (Fair Housing Act), as amended, prohibits discrimination in the sale, rental, and financing of dwellings, and in other housing-related transaction, based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status (including children under the age of 18 living with parents of legal custodians, pregnant women, and people securing custody of children under the age of 18) and handicap (disability).
This law prohibits any property owner from refusing to sell or lease based on any of the above criteria. It is also illegal to refuse to make a mortgage loan because of any of the above criteria. In addition, it is illegal to threaten, intimidate, or interfere with anyone exercising a fair housing right or assisting others who exercise that right.
Housing Channel is committed to affirmatively furthering fair housing (AFFH) for all persons. HC gives all persons of similar income levels the ability to have available the same housing choices regardless of race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status or national origin.
